"According to the LA Times, student Kelsee Thomas confronted members of the fraternity during the party, and while one member of the fraternity apologized, he also laughed at her when she asked him to write a letter to the black student union. Thomas later posted about the incident on Facebook, and said that they're hiding racism and ignorance behind frat and sorority themes."

"It’s one thing to suggest you are actually focusing on one celebrity who is African American, it’s another thing to take it as a license to perform every attribute, every stereotype, every grotesque minstrelsy that you see,” he said.
There were multiple reports of blackface, some of the soririty girls wearing "soot and gold" on their faces, fake butts, chains and braids as part of the general theme of the "party".
