Witching & Bitching (2014) | Streaming on: Netflix
After screwing up the tail end of a jewelry heist, a father is on the run with his young son and his ragtag group of fellow heist men and hostage. On their way to France, they "happen" across a village that houses a coven of witches. This foreign language film balances slapstick comedy with an over the top, hyperbolic gender war in a rather amusing way.
Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark (1988) | Streaming on: Hulu
I tried to keep things that were too obvious off this list but my bias is really showing here. Truly a classic and one of my favorite films growing up. Our quick witted, sharp tongued, perfect cleavage having horror movie queen inherits a creepy mansion in a small town. She faces nosey, uptight neighbors and a strange old man desperately seeking a mysterious book she inherited along with the house. Campy and full of jokes that will leave your dad clutching his satchel.
The Monster Squad (1987) | Streaming on: Netflix
A delightful newer addition to netflix streaming, The Monster Squad follows a group of horror fearing grade school friends who stumble across a friendly Frankenstein who is initially sent to eliminate them because they possess a sacred spell book, learn that other monsters are on their trail and their town is danger. In major 80's fashion, there's even a super stellar music montage as the kids pull together a plan to save themselves and their town.
Housebound (2014) | Streaming on: Netflix
A snappy seemingly miserable young woman is sent back to her parents home where she is put under house arrest for a botched crime. As if being stuck in a house with her mother whom she seems to have an unexplained disdain for, strange things begin happening in the house leaving her to wonder if it's haunted or worse...There is a fair bit of blood and gore in this particular film, but the overall humor and off beat demeanor of the characters definitely puts makes this more of a "comedic horror" film.
Grabbers (2012) | Streaming on: Netflix
A sleepy seaside Irish town must band together after they're attacked by mysterious, flesh eating sea creatures. This is a neat little creature feature that's very reminiscent to me of films like The World's End, Hot Fuzz, etc
Honorable Mentions or "I Wanted To Include These But I Can't Find Them Streaming Legally"
The Frighteners (1996)
Look at me learning just now that this was directed by Peter Jackson. This is also apparently Michael J Fox' last leading role in a film.
Earnest Scared Stupid (1991)
Earnest was pretty much the king slapstick camp when I was a kid. Another one I never get sick of no matter how old. RIP Jim Varney.
I tried to make a list of things that weren't SUPER obvious choices that everyone will mention such as Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, Halloween Town, etc; But be sure to share your favorite fun, campy picks.
