A film about true events has made up a fictional cis white boy who became the catalyst for the Stonewall riots instead of trans woc like Marsha P. Johnson who's said to have a very small role and Sylvia Rivera who's nowhere to be found in the imdb page of this movie.
A petition has been started in hopes of boycotting the film.
While this Hollywood film is attempting to whitewash history other independent films like Happy Birthday, Marsha! Are trying to get the story straight and accurate. It's in post production right now but definitely won't get the push this trash is gonna get.
Here are some tweets from LGBT members talking about the movie:
Margaret Cho tweeted about the movie and praised it until James St James tweeted her. She has since deleted her original tweet praising the film.
the first to throw a brick at stonewall was Marsha P. Johnson, a black trans drag queen. why whitewash her history? pic.twitter.com/z3f6DKT2eB— jungle julia (@suitelifeondick) August 6, 2015
I mean, if you wanna make money off of us by portraying our history, you could at least do it accurately. #Stonewall— The Gay Burn Book (@SouthernHomo) August 6, 2015
So Hollywood is just gonna pretend that trans women of color and drag queens don't exist and give credit for Stonewall to a white twink 🆗🆒— The Gay Burn Book (@SouthernHomo) August 5, 2015
