Female-driven movies are making bank at the box office


- Hollywood often says female-driven movies don't make money, author argues its the complete opposite

- Six of the top 10 movies of 2015 feature a woman at the center: Cinderella, Inside Out, Pitch Perfect 2, Home, Fifty Shades of Grey and Mad Max: Fury Road.

- 2015 is the number one film year in past decade to have featured as many movies about women in the top 10 for the mid-year box office.

-The only other year to get close was 2012, with four female-led films: The Hunger Games, Snow White and the Huntsman, Brave and The Vow.

- For mid-year box office between 2012-2015, 2012 and 2015 were highest grossing years, doesn't change even if the top-grossing films for the respective years (The Avengers and Jurrasic World) were removed from the equation
