Netflix Announces Casting for New Original Series 'The Crown'

Netflix has announced initial casting on their new original series The Crown, the decades-spanning inside story of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Prime Ministers who shaped Britain’s post-war destiny.

The Crown tells the story of Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street, two of the most famous addresses in the world– and the intrigues, love lives and politics behind some of the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century. Two houses, two courts, one Crown.

The cast
- Claire Foy (Wolf Hall) as Queen Elizabeth II
- Matt Smith (Dr. Who) as Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh
- John Lithgow (Third Rock from the Sun) as Sir Winston Churchill (lol, WAT?! Did Ian McNiece and Toby Jones fall off the planet or something??).

Behind the scenes are writer Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon), director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours) and producer Andy Harries (The Queen).

The Crown is currently presumed to premiere in 2016.
