ACLU demands investigation into Hollywood's bias against women directors

  • So far ACLU has asked the state of California and federal agencies to investigate Hollywood's discriminatory practices

  • Sent a 15 page letter to the federal Equal Employment Opportunity commission, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing and the Labor Department’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs detailing discrimination against women

  • They might launch a lawsuit in the future

  • In the 60s the Justice Department found evidence of discrimation and measures were put in place to promote minority directors but those failed

  • Of the top-grossing 100 films from 2013 and 2014, just 1.9 percent were directed by women
