S2E5: Pop-Up Restaurant

The top 6 this week participate in a pop-up restaurant in Malibu for the ~culinary elite~. Samuel and Abby, as winners of last week's challenge were captains of the teams: Red - Abby, Logan, Adaiah and Blue - Samuel, Sean, Oona.

I agree with this review in that dinner service aka Hell's Kitchen type episodes suck since there's no imagination or fun but rather a test of who can stand getting yelled at for the longest.

Alas, that's what happened this week.

The kids had to make the following:

APPETIZERS

ENTREES

Loup de mer aka branzino is a European seabass.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Logan has a hard time listening to Abby telling him to season his stuff more even when Adaiah, a whole 4 years older than Abby, has no problem with it.

  • Logan's cevice is waaayy too salty. Gordon spits it out upon tasting. Gordon sits down with him and reaffirms why Logan came to the competition.

  • After Gordon's pep talk to Logan, Red Team does much better:

  • Oona still continues to struggle with the squash blossoms, completing halting Blue Team's service. Graham helps her out, but the wait is getting to the diners. Samuel is incapable of plating two dishes at the same time.

  • Entree time: Samuel on the fish, Sean on filet mignon, Oona on fries. Red Team: Abby on fries, Adaiah filet, Logan fish. All filets must be perfect medium rare!

  • Graham to Logan on being careful with the fish: "The fish didn't do anything except die for you to cook it." lmao

  • Samuel's blue team really bounced back with entree round.

  • One diner even remarked that Adaiah's filet mignon was undercooked/on the tartar side instead of medium rare! :O Sean's filet mignon was cooked perfectly and Blue Team basically wins the Entree round like Red did the appetizers.

  • Judges: impressed with Logan's fish, thinks Samuel "screwed up" the fish/it was soggy in the middle. They found Adaiah's filet mignon bland, thought Sean's was delicious.

  • The Red Team won because they worked better as a team overall.

Ultimately, 2 members of the losing team had to go home. Who was coughwronglycough eliminated?

SEAN & OONA :'(((
Sean picked Samuel to win.
Oona picked Adaiah or Samuel to win.

Such crap. Sean's won more than anyone and didn't hurt his team in this challenge at all--Samuel was the inadequate Captain to begin with and Oona did horrible with the squash blossoms. Sean even cooked his filet perfectly. They should have done this like Masterchef regular where the losing team members get another pressure test to survive. Sean'd definitely beat Samuel in that. Sorry but I find it hard to believe that Abby and Logan are more talented than Sean. Masterchef/America isn't ready for TWO Asian/Vietnamese Masterchef winners (including Christine Ha). >:(

But like the boss that he is, he goes out acknowledging the other team as better and with a huge smile on his face:

I will miss Oona too.

Rooting for Adaiah now. Go all the way, girl!
