You might have heard rumors of a film adaptation of 90s kid nightmare fuel Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark being in the works. Originally the team behind The Collector, Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, were going to be writing the script. Now the project is moving forward and CNN and Deadline currently report that producers are heading in a new direction and have hired John August to complete the script.
While there's no confirmation if the movie will be an anthology or follow the lead of the upcoming Goosebumps film where the author is actually a character, August (whose credits include Big Fish and Frankenweenie) has said that while it is being adapted from children's books the finished film "won't exactly be kid-friendly".
According to CNN, August recently said on his podcast, "While this book is for children, the horror movie that we're making out of it I think hopefully captures how scary those books were when you were a kid but is not strictly a kids movie. In fact, you should not take certain younger kids for this movie. I can't actually take the art into the house, because if my daughter saw it, we would have nightmares."
