Welcome to New York review, by The New York Daily News obviously!
Taylor Swift has unleashed another new song from her album “1989,” which comes out Monday. Like the two tracks she already teased, this one ditches Nashville’s country sound to emphasize flighty synth-pop. The lyrics salute New York with lines like “Searching for a sound we hadn’t heard before/And it said welcome to New York.”
Unlike the classic odes to our city, Swift’s lacks the sophistication, or substance, of Gotham-themed hits by Sinatra, Billy Joel or Alicia Keys/Jay Z. Swift, now 24, takes a wide-eyed approach to New York that’s so naive and light it flies right out of your mind.
