Michael Phelps Suspended After DUI Arrest

Olympic swimming superstar Michael Phelps' comeback is on hold for at least six months after swimming's national governing body suspended him for six months Monday — including axing his funding — for his arrest on DUI charges last week. USA Swimming also banned Phelps from representing the U.S. at the world championships next August in Russia.

Phelps, 29, is six months into an attempted comeback after his retirement following the 2012 London Olympics, where he became the most decorated Olympian of all time, with 18 gold medals. Phelps was stopped last Tuesday in Maryland traveling 84 mph in a 45-mph zone, and police said he registered nearly double the legal blood-alcohol level. His representatives said Sunday that he's entering a six-week in-patient treatment program after his second DUI arrest — the first came in 2004, which resulted in 18 months' probation.
