Deadline and co reports that "Joaquin Phoenix No Longer in Talks to Play Doctor Strange for Marvel"

The news that Joaquin Phoenix was in talks to play Doctor Strange first emerged during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Some fans expected an announcement from Marvel that weekend, but we would hear nothing more about the movie until a later report which claimed that the Her star had entered “final talks”.

Those obviously weren’t that final as Phoenix is no longer in negotiations to play the Sorcerer Supreme and the hunt is back on for another actor to take on the iconic role in the movie rumoured for a 2016 release.

The site debunks recent reports that Boyhood and Sinister star Ethan Hawke is being considered, and whether Marvel will go back to previously rumoured candidates like Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) and Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) remains to be seen at this point.

Though Phoenix would have undoubtedly been amazing in the role, many argued from day one that he wasn’t the kind of actor who would sign a nine picture deal and start making Comic-Con appearances!

We’re now pretty much back to square one for the movie which will be directed by Scott Derickson from a script by Jon Spaihts. Who would you like to see take on the role of Doctor Strange now?

also reports say ethan hawke won't be dr strange even tho he said he'll love to join scott derickson in this movie. So Benedict rumours can start again or Jared Leto. Marvel has NYCC coming up if they want to make an announcement, or after AoU trailer but probably before December
