Sherri Shepherd has removed the newborn baby boy she had via surrogate from her health insurance, claims estranged husband Lamar Sally.
During an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show today, the 47-year-old former View co-host responded: "We can't say anything about that. I have a lot of lawyers and I'm in court right now and it's very public and it's very painful..you know me, I'm not Tori and Dean."
When it comes to their child born via surrogate, Sherri Shepherd‘s estranged husband, Lamar Sally, wants the television personality to take responsibility. “I never thought in a million years she would turn her back on L.J. [the couple's son born via surrogate],” Sally told People. The 44-year-old scriptwriter said the former couple agreed to use a surrogate with his sperm and a donor egg. He explained that all the forms were signed except for a birth order, which states who the intended parents are.
“I didn’t think twice about it,” he said. In April, Sally said he was blindsided when she asked for a divorce. “This is six months into the pregnancy, and I’m just like, ‘Really?’ She said, ‘We’ll co-parent. We’ll work it out.'” The surrogate gave birth on Aug. 5, just three months after the couple filed for divorce, but the “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” star wasn’t present for the delivery. Sally claimed that Shepherd, 47, has made no contact with the baby and has taken him off of her insurance.
“I think it’s the worst thing in the world for L.J. to look at his birth certificate at 16 and see it says ‘Mother unknown,'” he said. In July, Sally was drafting papers to prevent Shepherd from walking away without paying child support. The pretrial hearing is set for Oct. 2.
Sherri Shepherd thinks it’s nasty that her ex-husband and estranged husband have seemingly joined together for her detriment, but so far, they haven’t been successful. “The judge ruled in my favor. I retained custody of my son,” Sherri told Wendy Williams about her legal battle with her son’s father, Jeffrey Tarpley. Of course, it’s not just her first husband who’s dragging Sherri to court. The former “The View” host is also in litigation with her soon-to-be ex Lamar Sally. Sherri couldn’t share too much about those proceedings because the two are still working things out.
Though Sherri reportedly offered Sal a lump sum of $100,000 plus monthly child support for Sal’s child, who is not biologically hers, he refused that proposal and the two are heading to court, according to sources. “Everybody is suing me. Just ask me to be a reference on the job application,” Sherri joked. “You don’t have to sue me.”
According to Sherri, she and Sal are no longer on speaking terms, but she is praying for her estranged spouse. Oddly enough, she said Sal and Jeffrey do speak to one another, and she finds that “creepy” and “nasty.” “It’s very painful,” admitted Sherri, who has friends like Johnny Gill to help her through the drama. Contrary to the rumors, Sherri said she and Johnny are not romantically involved.
“Johnny and I are just friends because I am a New Edition groupie,” she said. “I go and see them everywhere and so Johnny and I hang out.” Sherri, who only dated Sal for a year before marrying him, hinted that she might follow her former co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s advice and take some time before dating again.
