This is part 2 of an interview with Proj Run producer Andy Cohen & my favorite contestant ever, Santino. It's long, but there's a hilarious part where Santino goes off on him for insinuating that he had sex with a 35D boy. I made it bigger so you don't have to skim through.
OK, GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS OF THE OTHERS STILL IN THE GAME. LAURA I KNOW ... ULI?
I liked Uli too when she came to the casting. I vouched for her. Some of the other judges didn't see it or thought it humdrum -- but she had a great eye for combining prints. She's talented, she has a stylist background, and that's completely valid. A lot of her work on the show I found mesmerising and beautiful.
I didn't go to the final fashion show in NYC, but it looks like Michael brought the Projects to the runway. But he can ride on being Mr. Congeniality. Michael will probably win the fan favorite award ... for whatever that's worth.
WHERE CAN SOMEONE BUY A SANTINO DRESS? WHAT IF SOMEONE WANTS TO COMMISSION SOMETHING FROM YOU?
I'm pretty easy to find. They can email me either through santinorice.com or I've given them my card and they get back to me. I've kept my Myspace as well!
WHAT ARE YOU UP TO THESE DAYS?
Boy, let me tell you, I love this question! I get it on a bi-daily basis. Let me see, I'm still constantly searching for new stimulation. Still very curious about life. Self-discovering. Still looking and talking to potential investors. Fashioning my escape from mediocrity. Creating a full-fledged lifestyle empire! But check back tomorrow...
DO YOU HAVE ANY REGRETS ABOUT BEING ON THE SHOW?
I really only want to live in the present. I've got a enthusiastic following. I've maintained my sense of humor. There's always another story to tell! Sure, I struggle with things. But for me I know the end will justify the means. I think I navigated the show better than most.... I'm trying to think of at least one regret though.... Oh, that I wasn't invited to the Emmys!
DO YOU KEEP IN TOUCH WITH ANY RUNWAY ALUMNI?
I talk to Andrae regularly, that's about it.
I DID A BLOG WHERE RALPH FIENNES INTERVIEWED ME ABOUT RUNWAY AND HE ASKED IF ANYBODY GOT IT ON DURING PRODUCTION OF THE SHOW. I SAID I HEARD A RUMOR THAT SOMETHING WENT ON IN YOUR APARTMENT. JUST END IT. CLEAR IT UP, BOY.
Like why would you have said that? Why would you have talked in your blog about a RUMOR that you heard? I've heard a lot of rumors about you, ones from reliable sources, I don't blog about it!
GOOD POINT AND GOOD QUESTION. I THINK IT IS WAS THE FIRST THING THAT CAME TO MY MIND AND I JUST SPIT IT OUT AND AFTERWARDS SOMEONE EMAILED ME AND BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION HOW STUPID IT WAS BECAUSE ANDRAE HAS A LONG-TERM BOYFRIEND. AND IT WAS A RUMOR AND I THOUGHT ABOUT IT AND FELT AWFUL ....
IS THAT WHY YOU ASKED?
Several reasons. First off, you know me. The fact that I am open about my sexuality and my sexuality is the last thing that I have to ride on. As far as my skill, talent, and character that's more important than my sexuality. I'm not a gay/bisexual or whatever term you want to make for me, male, that has issues about it or uses it to define me as a person. A man who's had sex with another man and doesn't have a problem with it. Within Project Runway it's a moot point. NO SEX ALLOWED! Who I'm f***ing is the least important thing of my makeup. More so, is the fact you've never asked me about rumors you've heard. It's just that duplicitous nature that taints everyone in the entertainment industry. Honestly Andy, I don't trust anyone that's involved with the show. I just remember to be civil with people, but know that all our conversations are completely full of shit. No one really cares what's happening with Santino, you're just hoping it's something bad. You're "pulling back the curtain on the creative process," is really just a way to try to expose and de-fame. Funny, sometimes, but overall I think it just contributes to a society of critics, nitpickers, and finger-pointers. I digress.....
I DON'T WANT ANYTHING BAD TO HAPPEN TO YOU AND WE'RE NOT TRYING TO DEFAME ANYONE. BUT, YOU HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS SO MUCH MORE THAN A SEXUAL BEING BY ME AND THE SHOW AND THE PRESS AND EVERYONE ELSE SO MANY TIMES, SO I AM SURPRISED THAT ONE REFERENCE TO IT BOTHERED YOU SO MUCH.
Andy, your comment is one of thousands of snide, shady, remotely disguised disses. Like Michael Kors being quoted in Entertainment Weekly saying that people come up to him all the time and say that Santino should be institutionalized? It's just fags throwing shade. I don't like people speculating about my sexuality or spreading misinformation about my personal life! I gave you more than enough to work with! In a forum that people read and take seriously, really it's cyber-journalism when you're readers are in the thousands. You should have to fact check RUMORS.
I AM REALLY SORRY.
Show me, I'm from Missouri! I'm not bent out of shape about it. If I was able to have sex with people from Project Runway -- I joke about it -- I would've f***ed every producer on the show. Have you seen Michael Rucker's mouth?
DO YOU ACCEPT MY APOLOGY?
I do. But I hope... in the future, I know people say things and things come out. But also, It's not LIVE, you have a point after you've typed, where you could edit some of those things and that should've been left out.
GOOD POINT. HOW WAS YOUR VISIT TO OUR HOMETOWN, ST. LOUIS?
Awesome, St. Louis shows me lots of love! The charity event I hosted was really well organized and I was majorly impressed with every aspect. Where was your Mom?
GOOD QUESTION! HOW MUCH TRAVELING DO YOU DO?
A lot. And I even turn a lot of things down. Next month I am going to Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan. Nothing is consistent in my life, everyday it's a new, exciting adventure.
WHAT'S YOUR NEXT MOVE, FASHION-WISE?
The next logical move is to create collections that I sell to boutiques and high-end department stores. I didn't win the money and am still working on the foundation of getting that together. Until then, making custom clothes and making public appearances is what occupies my days. But I'm really in no rush to over-extend myself financially. The more I show, the better for me. And people will eventually see my talent if they hadn't before.
CAN PEOPLE BUY YOUR COLLECTION OR ANYTHING FROM IT?
Yeah they can, everything is made to measure so there's room for variation. Much is created from scratch now though. Someone can reference a certain garment, but proportions usually change, colors change. The fans of the show aren't my customer base, necessarily. Even people who emailed me thorough Elle magazine regarding a style and I write them back and let them know how the process will go about, and eight times out of ten I don't hear from them again. I think most people have it it in their minds that they will get a $300 dollar Project Runway dress. But, hey, when it works out it's great!
HOW MUCH ARE YOUR DRESSES? WHAT IS YOUR PRICEPOINT?
I work within a higher-end designer price point where some of the dresses I make are between $2,500 dollars to $7,000 dollars. I also have made dresses beyond that depending on the materials and for some, the sky's the limit -- for others there's a set budget. After all is said and done, you get what you pay for. It's a rare treat to work with a client on something that evolves from someone's love of fashion. It's a process on both ends though. Most don't have the time to devote to this type of undertaking. I'll be excited to eventually have a Ready to Wear collection in stores. Women could just swoop in and buy up the store!
WHERE ARE YOU ON YOUR WAY TO DINNER?
Silverlake -- a restaurant in Silverlake. I didn't win the Saturn Sky Roadster, so a friend of mine gave me a Volkswagon cabriolet convertible and it's a pretty cute car. With the top down at the beach, it's pretty cute.
Yellow. Bright yellow.
I USED TO HAVE A 1972 BUICK SKYLARK YELLOW CONVERTIBLE.
Nice. that's great. How do you take so many vacations, by the way?
HA. IT SEEMS LIKE I TAKE MORE THAN I ACTUALLY DO, SANTINO. BUT THANKS FOR NOTICING WHEN I AM AWAY. I LEARNED A LESSON TODAY ABOUT THE IMPACT OF WHAT I WRITE ON THIS BLOG. I'M GLAD WE TALKED.
