The Walking Dead's Emmy Campaign Focuses on Humanity

AMC is reminding Emmy voters that The Walking Dead is more than a genre show and ratings hit.

The cable network is using its Emmy campaign this year to promote the zombie drama's focus on humanity, rather than the gore and special effects most genre shows are known for.

The series of posters highlights the character-driven -- and often heart-wrenching -- moments that comprised Walking Dead's recently concluded fourth season with the tagline "Something Human."

"We've always said that The Walking Dead is a character drama that asks and explores some very fundamental questions -- what does it mean to survive and how do you hold on to your humanity amid all these really terrible things happening? This Emmy campaign focuses on those powerful, emotional moments and performances that underscore these very questions," AMC exec vp marketing Linda Schupack tells THR. "For the campaign, we wanted to remind Emmy voters of both the beauty of the actors' performances and the powerful storylines that motivated them."

The eight posters, exclusive to THR and seen below, highlight pivotal season-four moments including Carol (Melissa McBride) and her devastating decision in "The Grove" to kill Lizzie. David Morrissey's The Governor takes center stage in another poster for his arc that saw the villain attempt to start over with a new family before coming full circle and facing off in a deadly confrontation with Rick.

In one image, Scott Wilson's Hershel and Steven Yeun's Glenn spotlight what a family in the postapocalyptic world looks like, while another features Yeun's powerful reunion with Lauren Cohan's Maggie.

Star Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and onscreen son Chandler Riggs (Carl) also get the Emmy treatment after a season that saw the former sheriff struggle with seeing his young son become a man in the violent and increasingly dangerous world. Norman Reedus' Daryl also joins Lincoln on another poster after the series put the spotlight on the former loner's increasing value to the group in his most heartbreaking season yet.
