It was creepy in the original version (Pattinson was playing the part as though Edward was a stalker), only the exchanging or roles seems to have highlighted it for you, I suppose.
I saw an article about how we shouldn't do gender swaps like this because objectifying men is bad too? Or something, idk. Some feminist page I follow on FB linked it and I was like are you serious?
The fact is that while objectifying people is wrong, it's rare to see men who get treated as only objects, while for many poeple it's a common thing to do to women.
It's definitely not the same to objectify men as women are objectified, though: when women are being objectified, it's all part of the oppression the female gender endures in Western society. Doing the same thing to men does not have the same ramifications because it is impossible to oppress them with it, being that they're society's dominant gender.
The difference is all in the oppression that's being perpetuated. It's not good to objectify men and turn them into solely sexual tools, but no one is oppressing them, so it's not nearly as devastating as when women are objectified.
if their point is that it's some alternate world where men are systematically oppressed and we objectify them (i guess what the video is depicting) then I can see their point. because it reinforces the same unequal power dynamics/exploitation we have right now except revered. like if women use the same patriarchal oppressive behaviors (like objectification for eg) thinking they're fighting the power, they're really not because it's reinforcing that those same oppressive behaviors are valid and appropriate. idk if I make any sense but I'm js I can see that argument working lol.
The twilight scene is bad because Meyer is a terrible writer who projects sexist, racist, and heteronormative ideas into her writing. She doesn't represent all women writers.
God the Twilight one is so creepy. But it might honestly be very slightly less creepy than the original, if only because they didn't have the same dead-eye look of desperation that Rpatz and Kstew had in the entirety of their films.
Great video all the same, and excellent point all around.
I watched Pretty Woman a couple of days ago and I hadn't seen it for a while and all I keep thinking while I was watching it is that he treats her like shit the whole way through, constantly reminds her of her ~place~, and takes every opportunity to humiliate her that he can. By the end I was like "TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN, JULIA!!!". I'd just never noticed/paid attention before.
That twilight scene is creepy in both.
Way to miss the point.

That twilight scene, no matter what gender is so fucking creepy.
Where do you see the sexism?
Re-read what I wrote.

Because it doesn't read that way on first glance... But maybe it's just your wording.

Great video all the same, and excellent point all around.
