If you weren’t already won over by the insanely cheap shoes, the adorable throw pillows, and the clean-smelling aisles full of girly junk, Target has just given you a pretty good reason to love them. Following in Vogue‘s footsteps, the store has decided to end its relationship with Terry Richardson.
“We worked with Terry on a campaign for one of our limited-edition collaborations,” Target spokesman Joshua Thomas said in an email. “We have no plans to work with him in the future.”
Good. Considering how many people have continued to support Richardson financially in the midst of all this controversy, it’s a relief to see someone is taking a stand. I tend to take the cover-my-ears-and-sing-loudly approach to news about Richardson– not because I support him in any way, but because I’m so totally convinced that he’s dangerous that I’m sick of seeing people give his work the time of day. If you’re like me and you need a refresher about what’s going on, model Emma Appleton came forward this week with a screencap of a text message that allegedly shows Richardson offering her a Vogue shoot in exchange for sex. Add this to the stories from numerous other models who’ve made similar claims, and it seems pretty darn likely that this guy is a worthless piece of shit. It makes me proud to know that I waste most of my money on fancy waffle irons and cheap tote bags from a store that doesn’t actively support sex abuse against models.
