Hawley Woods in Hampshire was transformed into an exciting movie set as the team behind the Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron, filmed scenes at the film-friendly location.
Thanks to gethampshire.co.uk we’ve been given a heads up as residents captured behind-the-scenes pictures of a winter battle scene set for the second Avengers film, Age of Ultron, which is due to be released next April.
You can see the set is complete with fake snow, massive tanks and a star that looks very much like Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow.
Proposals were put forward to Hart district Council by Assembled Productions II UK Ltd in February to use the land temporarily for filming, and plans were approved on March 17, report local paper Get Hampshire.
And although the application did not indicate which movie would be filmed, the plans did state that a ‘small defensive bunker’ would be constructed in the woods to aid the filming of scenes in which principle characters are engaged in fighting with opposing forces.
The film set was constructed in the woods from March 17 to April 2 and filming was due to take place until Tuesday (April 8), before the site is cleared from Wednesday (April 9) to Tuesday (April 15).
This is not the first time Hawley Woods and the surrounding countryside have been used for filming. The opening sequence of 2002’s Die Another Day was shot there in which the location was used to replicate North Korea. Johnny English Reborn was also shot nearby as well as 2005 movie Sahara.
The sequel to the 2012 Marvel superhero film is set to also star Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Samuel L. Jackson as the Avengers, who reassemble to battle the sentient robot, known as Ultron, played by James Spader.
Johansson recently revealed that the sequel will also keep the 'exciting comic book aspect' that fans loved from the first film.
The new film is directed by Joss Whedon while Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen have also been announced as joining the star-studded cast.
* The Avengers: Age Of Ultron is released on May 1 2015.
