"Man of Steel 2" star Gal Gadot has been the center of much of the film's casting controversy, with many fans ripping the studio for picking what they believed was an actress "too skinny" for the Wonder Woman role. Though the 28-year-old has defended herself, saying she represents "the Wonder Woman of the new world," Gadot has been training hard for the character, as evidenced by some photos she posted of her new guns.
The "Fast & Furious" star recently revealed to E! Online that while she still sneaks in some cheat meals, she has dedicated herself to a solid workout routine in preparation for the film.
"I just keep active-everything that's challenging me, everything that I feel like doing," she said. "It's not like I'm only doing TRX or Pilates. I do sports. I do cardio, but I don't like it as much. I'd rather do weights... I try to eat healthy, but sometimes though, I eat cheeseburgers. That's good for the soul. I make sure to balance everything out. I drink tons of water."
Gadot previously told Good Evening with Gai Pines, an entertainment show in her native Israel, she was starting "a very serious training regimen - Kung Fu, kickboxing, swords, jujutsu, Brazilian...1,000 and 1 things, adding "I'll gain body mass."
"Man of Steel 2" costume designer Michael Wilkinson opened up about his work for the upcoming film in an interview with Esquire, revealing the thinking that went into the suits for Batman and Wonder Woman, which he explained was quite different.
Addressing the look for Wonder Woman, which has been rumored to be more "gladiator-like" and less like the skimpy outfits of her past, Wilkinson noted that the character's smaller cultural presence compared to Batman and Superman made designing her costume a completely unique experience.
"I think there's a huge responsibility we all feel about Wonder Woman," he said. "She hasn't been on the big screen in a movie ever. She's been on TV, of course, with the legendary Linda Carter. She's been drawn a million different ways in graphic novels and comic books so we're really sinking ourselves into that culture and educating ourselves about her backstory and really thinking hard about a Wonder Woman who is contemporary and reverberates with modern audiences."
Wilkinson, who earned an Oscar nomination for his design work on the costumes of David O. Russell's "American Hustle," previously told The Wrap that Wonder Woman would certainly be influenced by gladiators:
"I mean, you just have to look at the gladiators from ancient Rome; they did their thing in little loincloths, and a spear and a shield. It works for Thor, it works for 300 - so let's see what happens," he said.
According to a report by Screen Rant, this development suggests the character will play an integral part in the film's action scenes, possibly against or alongside Batman or Superman.
Gadot has signed on for three films set to feature Wonder Woman, including a standalone Wonder Woman picture.
Recent rumors suggest the reveals of the Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman suits could come in the next few weeks.
"Man of Steel 2" is scheduled to hit theaters May 6, 2016.
