When a crew member of the USS Enterprise tells you it's okay to be a nerd, you listen.
Wil Wheaton, who played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation, was filmed at Denver's Comic Con last June answering a little girl's question about being bullied as a nerd. His answer was eloquent and heartfelt, and a video of it went viral over the weekend.
"When you were a kid, were you called a nerd and how did you deal with it?" Wheaton was asked during a panel talk.
"When I was a little boy I was called a nerd all the time because I did not like sports, I loved to read, I liked math and science and I thought school was really cool and it hurt, a lot," Wheaton said. "Don't let them make you feel bad because you love something," he continued.
"When a person is cruel to you, it has nothing to do with you ... it's about them feeling bad about themselves. They feel sad. They don't get positive attention from their parents," he told the girl.
The crowd applauded as Wheaton finished: "It absolutely gets better as you get older."
I went to Denver Comic Con last year but I did not go to this panel.
