The 41-year-old actress' mother is reportedly not happy about Paltrow's breakup from the Coldplay frontman after 10 years of marriage. Gwyneth's Paltrow's mom Blythe Danner did not take her daughter and Chris Martin's "uncoupling" news too well.
"(She's) really upset. She loves Chris," a source told Us Weekly of the 71-year-old actress.
"She begged Gwyneth not to end it, that he's a good man. But Gwyneth had to do what she felt was best."
"They really tried to make it work," the insider added to the mag of the estranged couple. "You could tell something was wrong, though, over the last few months. You could see a sadness in each of their eyes."
Paltrow, 41, opened up in a June 2013 interview with Glamour UK about her parents' marriage and how they made it work for 33 years before his death in 2002. "I asked my dad once, 'How did you and Mom stay married for 33 years?' And he said, 'Well, we never wanted to get divorced at the same time,'" she said. (iconique quote tbh)
"I think that's what happens," she continued. "When two people throw in the towel at the same time, then you break up, but if one person's saying, 'Come on, we can do this,' you carry on." Paltrow and the Coldplay frontman did indeed decide to throw in the towel Tuesday by announcing the end of their 10-year marriage via the blond beauty's lifestyle site, Goop. "It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate," the pair said in their statement. "We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate."
