Leighton Meester for Nelly – Wooh! This year Nelly.com is celebrating 10 years of Fashion and the birthday celebrations start with Nelly’s biggest campaign ever, fronted by the most stunning hollywood star Leighton Meester also known as Blair from Gossip Girl. Leighton picked her favourite pieces from Nelly’s spring 2014 collection and created these super cute OOTD’s!
Leighton says: “I’ve had a great time working with Nelly.com on this campaign, which celebrates their 10 year anniversary. I feel that the clothes I picked for this campaign really reflects my personality, they are young, fun and carefree”.
What are you working on next?
The Broadway production of “Of Mice and Men”. I’m very excited about it.
What would you do if you were not an actress?
I would have loved to be a therapist. The human mind really fascinates me.
Who is your role model and why?
The American writer Betty Friedan- she fought for gender equality and wrote the great book “The Feminine Mystique” which sparked the beginning of a second-wave feminism. (Relieved she didn't say Ayn Rand, TBH)
So do you consider yourself a feminist?
Sure. I believe in equal rights for men and women. (And there it is. Love that she got right to the point and was so matter-of-fact.)
What is your tips to young girls who want to succeed?
Read and fight for an education.
What are you most proud of and why?
My family and group of friends are my passion, I trust them and feel mutual love and support at all times and I try to always be there for them. My second passion is my work, I’m happy when I’m working. Though this Nelly shoot does even feel like work, it’s just fun!
What is your favorite place on earth?
Home, specifically on my couch haha!
What’s on top of your bucket list?
My only wish is to spend more time with friends and family and relax at home more. That’s what makes me most balanced and happy.
What is your perfect night out?
I love going out to dinner with loved ones. We get sushi, Mexican, Indian. I’m a real food-lover.
What’s your relationship with fashion?
It’s personal and a statement of who you are. To me fashion has always been a snapshot of where I am in time and my style has changed a lot over the years. Right now I’m in a comfortable phase where I’ve gotten more relaxed about being put together. It comes with living in LA where the style is very casual so I actually wear a lot of skinny jeans and tees. When working in NYC it feels natural to wear more heels and dresses.
Do you have a style icon?
I love Catherine Deneuve and Brigitte Bardot. They’re one-of-a-kind women, comfortable with their bodies, sexy and still sophisticated. I think you can pull of any look if you’re confident and comfortable in your skin.
Where do you find style inspiration?
Movies, books, travel, -life really.
What are your thoughts on the Nelly collaboration?
Nelly.com describes their girl as young, fun and confident so I’m really flattered to be considered a Nelly girl! It was a no-brainer to do this collaboration as the clothes are really flattering and things that I would wear myself. Making it even better, I got to pick the looks out myself so it’s only things that I feel comfortable and confident wearing.
Do you have a life saver wardrobe piece?
I feel I can never go wrong with a black dress with an accentuated waist. A hat, wool or cashmere for when it’s cold, straw for hot is another favorite.
What’s your top three beauty advise?
Stick to the basics: Hydrate, sleep and use sunscreen.
Your can’t live without beauty product?
Sunscreen! I grew up in Florida and now I live in California where the sun always shines so I got the habit of always putting it on.
How do you stay in shape?
Doing Pilates, hiking, swimming, riding my bike, walking when possible, eating moderately healthy, and getting enough rest.
How do you get ready for the red carpet?
I’m really low maintenance; I just take a shower and eat a good meal. Then start with hair and makeup.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Laying on the couch and watching episode after episode of series like Orange is the new black or Breaking Bad. And eating a lot of sweets, but that doesn’t really make me feel guilty haha!
Mods - a preview of her campaign was posted, but not the official pictures, video or interview, which debuted today.
