Beyonce Uses Her Main Website To Promote Black History Month

Beyonce posted this message on her official website:

In honor of African American men and women who have worked diligently dedicating their lives to inspire our future, I want to shine a spotlight on their achievements and sacrifices during Black History Month. These are some of the unsung heroes, past and present. For 28 days I will highlight their stories in hopes to inspire, motivate and move you.

An organizer and architect of the American Civil Rights movement, Bayard Rustin is often left out of Civil Rights history because he was openly gay. It is said that he spent time “on two crosses”, dealing with marginalization as part of both Black and LGBT communities. Rustin brought Gandhi’s peaceful protest techniques and ideals to the Civil Rights movement and helped mold Martin Luther King, Jr. into an international symbol of peace and nonviolence.

Great way to kick off the month. Hopefully other stars will step up and use their visibility for educational opportunities as well. :)
