LeToya Luckett Talks Beyonce’s Cough In That Old Destiny’s Child Interview

In an old Destiny’s Child interview that a Vine user recently dug up, Beyonce casts a side eye, coughs loudly and nods dubiously right as Kelly Rowland says, “I’m the second lead vocalist of the group.” For some, the clip only confirmed tenfold that Blue Ivy learned to throw shade from her mother. For LeToya Luckett, however, it doesn’t prove anything.

“So, I suddenly start getting texts on a particular day, I guess as soon as it surfaced, and they were like, ‘Your face.’ And I was like, ‘What face? What are you talking about?’” she said to MTV. “And so I went and I look and I die laughing, because I don’t know where that even came from or why we were looking like that.” (By “your face,” close ones were referring to her own, increasingly bored look.)

Luckett did confirm one other thing — going into that interview, each member of Destiny’s Child knew their part. “We were team players,” she said to MTV. “B was first lead; Kelly was second lead; I was soprano; [LaTavia Roberson] was the alto and she was the spokesperson. Everybody knew their lane so no one ever stepped in anyone else’s lane. That’s how every team should work.”

Unfortunately, she couldn’t answer the most important question of all. “Everybody is like, ‘Shade for Beyonce’s cough.’ What if the girl had to cough? What if she was just having an issue? It looks like shade being thrown, but I don’t remember throwing the shade.” Logically, Luckett can only speak for herself on this matter. Beyonce, your turn?
