The 21-year-old shot to the top of the charts last year with Icona Pop and Love It but became almost obsessed with Usher when she was on tour in America.

‘I just wanted to go to a strip club with Usher. But that didn’t happen,’ the Londoner told Guilty Pleasures, recalling when she performed in Atlanta in the autumn.

‘The whole time I was on stage I was like “Where is Usher? Where is he?” and by the end of the gig everyone was like: “He’s not here!”

‘I was looking at all these hip hop sites like where you are most likely to run into Usher and nothing really helped. I do not have an obsession. It is just because I was there and I was like “Wow! I’ve never been here before.” But Usher has great songs. He’s kind of is a legend.’

With her third album due for release this spring, Charli – real name Charlotte Aitchison – has managed to continue to find time to record with other artists as well as working on her own material.

‘I wrote a song for Rita [Ora] which is great. I don’t know what has happed with that yet, but it is an awesome song,’ she revealed.

The singer is also impressed her R.I.P mate has landed a role in the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey film.

‘I actually haven’t read that book. Maybe that’s bad because everyone is raving about it, but cool for her. I always think that to do the whole acting thing is so cool. J Lo was in Anaconda and then she was a singer and then she went and made movies. I think that is cool,’ she gushed.
