Details are scarce but director Bryan Singer seemingly just announced that a new X-Men movie, called X-Men: Apocalypse, will be out in 2016. The precise date being reported is May 27, 2016, about two years after the upcoming release X-Men: Days of Future Past. We’ll have more details soon.
That sounds like the film will follow the Age of Apocalypse storyline from the 1990s in which time-travel creates an alternate timeline and an immortal villain named Apocalypse decides to reign havoc on the X-Men. Think the Thanos of the X-Men Universe.
What’s also interesting about this, besides the massive scope, is Apocalypse was introduced in X-Factor, a comic book that brought back the original X-Men members. This could be a way for Jean Grey and Cyclops, who aren’t in X-Men: Days of Future Past, to come back into the mix.
