Judges well up as 'world class' Sam Bailey sings for her children + X Factor Live Discussion

Singing sensation Sam Bailey brought tears to the eyes of the X Factor judges as she performed a song on last night's show which reminded her of her children.

The Leicestershire mum’s emotional performance of Emeli Sande's Clown for the ITV talent show’s quarter final followed her equally stunning rendition of Whitney Houston's hit How Will I Know? earlier in the programme.

Before singing the song made famous by her “hero” Whitney, Sam said she was “missing her family routine”, but she added: “I just have to put things into perspective and think how lucky I am.

“I have to pinch myself every day, it’s amazing.

“I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’m having the time of my life.”

Just hours after telling her 188,000 Twitter followers she was "nervous", Sam transformed into a superstar, strutting confidently back and forth across the stage with an entourage of scantily-clad backing dancers as she belted out the Whitney number.

After her flawless performance of the song, the judges heaped praise on the 36-year-old prison guard - for whom, it seems, returning to her day job seems increasingly unlikely.

Louis Walsh described Sam's performance as "effortless".

He added: "There's a space in the UK market for people like you."

Gary Barlow told Sam: “Another stunning performance.”

Her proud mentor, Sharon Osbourne, told the Leicester Forest East mum she had "pushed herself".

Ex-Pussy Cat Doll Nicole Scherzinger said likened Sam’s performance, in the particular the production, to a cruise ship act, but admitted she loved the song and said: "You sang the heck out of that song, you did it justice."

Sharon jumped to Sam's defence, saying Nicole must have mistaken the ‘cruise ship’ for London's O2 arena.

However, during Sam’s second song, Clown, Nicole had tears in her eyes.

Afterwards, delivering her verdict on the performance, Nicole said: “I just have one word - astounding.”

Gary added: “An hour ago you had us all dancing, now you had us all crying. It's absolutely beautiful. I’m astounded. You are a superb singer, well done.”

Louis agreed, calling Sam a "world class act".

He added: “This is the vocal performance of the night.”

On The Xtra Factor, after the main show, Sharon described Sam - to cheers from the audience - as a "very, very grounded woman", and a great wife and mother, who had waited a long time for her success.

Sam has just finished a whirlwind week of performances and mingling with the stars, including attending the Royal Variety Performance in a “posh frock”, visiting the set of EastEnders and talking with Great Glen singing legend Engelbert Humperdinck.

The show’s contestants will sing again tonight, with one being voted off the show.

X Factor sensation says she wants to show people she "do everything" with her incredible singing voice.

Sharon jumped to Sam's defence, saying the only place she would be singing next was London's O2 arena.

Following her rendition of the '80s pop classic, Sam explained to host Dermot O'Leary that she just wanted to prove to her fans that she had it all.

"I can do everything," she said. "So I just want to go and show people that I can."

Enge, 77, rang Sam on Monday to give her some hints and tips about performing - and they either worked or she didn't need them, because her second song, Emeli Sande's Clown, cemented Sam's reputation as one of the best contestants on the show.

Judge Gary Barlow said: "An hour ago you had us all dancing, now you had us all crying. It's absolutely beautiful. It just goes on and on."

Louis agreed, calling Sam a "world class act".

"You are what this show is all about," said Louis. "You look like a pop star."
