Midnight Memories Overtakes Random Access Memories as the Fastest Selling Album of 2013 in the UK!

One Direction’s third album Midnight Memories has become the fastest-selling album of the year so far. The band’s new album has beaten the record previously held by Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories. Daft Punk sold 165,091 copies of Random Access Memories during its first week on sale, but Midnight Memories has shifted 187,660, Music Week reports. 1D were on course for the achievement on Wednesday, which saw a whopping 145,000 copies of the album sold within the first three days of its release on November 25.

Midnight Memories will be the lads’ second chart-topping album after 2012′s Take Me Home. Zayn, Harry, Liam, Louis and Niall look set to beat Gary Barlow’s new album Since I Saw You Last to number 1.

One Direction were recently honoured at the American Music Awards, which saw them pip Taylor Swift to the post for best pop/rock album for Take Me Home. They also bagged best pop/rock group on the night. As the group, who came third in the 2010 series of The X Factor, took to the stage to collect their award, Niall said: ‘To be here is just an honour and to pick up two awards is just incredible. ‘To be able to perform here as well, thank you so much again to our fans. Literally, you mean the world to us and there is no way we would be able to do this without you. Thank you.’
