Former Ronettes singer Ronnie Spector is no fan of rapper Kanye West, and has called the controversial artist "a dick" in a recent interview.
Spector, who rose to fame in the celebrated 1960s girl group, spoke of her disdain for West after being asked about his relations with paparazzi. "I am not a fan of Kanye West. I don't mind Kim [Kardashian], but I just don't like that guy. I'm not a fan of how he speaks," she said. "He's a dick. I'm sorry. I don't like him. I'm just being honest," she told the music blog Noisey.
The singer, 70, has been performing her two-hour show, Beyond the Beehive, which chronicles her 50-year career in rock'n'roll. In addition to discussing her time in the Ronettes, she spoke about the contemporary pop landscape, Lady Gaga ("Give me a break with the outfits. Just sing") and Spector's relationship with now-imprisoned producer Phil Spector, whom she married in 1968 and divorced in 1974 after spending five harrowing years locked in her own Hollywood home.
Spector praised Eminem and Taylor Swift, and mentioned Amy Winehouse, whose career was inspired by the Ronettes. "When I went to London and Amy Winehouse came to see my show, she looked just like me. She had the same hairstyle as me and everything. It scared me. I was on stage singing Back to Black and she was in the audience listening to me," she said.
"I saw a tear out of her eye and it made me cry. To think, six months later she was dead. I was devastated. I said: 'There goes the Ronette that could have been me after I'm gone.' I was so sad when she died, I can't tell you. I put Back to Black in my show."
It is no secret that Kanye West has shown a deep appreciation for fine art. It seems as if the art world is reciprocating that appreciation as ‘Ye’s famous visage is being immortalized in a new painting.
Artist Marc Dennis’ recent exhibit at the Hasted Kraeutler art gallery in New York features a painting of a security guard that bares a striking resemblance to Mr. West. This whimsical painting portrays the Yeezy-faced sentry standing guard in front of golden-framed portrait of a kitten.
The painting is part of Dennis’ exhibition entitled “An Artist, A Curator And A Rabbi Walk Into A Bar…” that is running at the Hasted Kraeutler art gallery from November 8 to January 4.
A computer-generated image shows what North West may look like when she's nearing the same age as her famous parents.
Vouchercodespro.co.uk commissioned experts to imagine Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's four-month-old baby around the age of 25.
The resulting graphic shows a 'grown-up' North with glossy brown hair, a chiseled jawline, and pouty lips like both of her parents.
Now and then? A computer-generated image shows what North West may look like when she's nearing her famous parents' age - she appears, left, on August 23 this year and, right, imagined around 25 years old
But commentators have been less than complimentary about the illustration, deeming it 'weird' and 'scary'.
Buzzfeed.com interjected: 'Hopefully she’ll get a bit more Kim and a bit less Kanye in real life.'
However, those close to Kanye and Kim say that North has inherited the 'perfect' combination of her parents' good looks.
Kim's best friend, TV personality Jonathan Cheban, said shortly after the infant's birth on June 15: 'It’s a split. She’s delicious, that’s all I can say.'
Designers from Vouchercodespro.co.uk created the 'aged' image of North by combining photos of her with ones of Kim and Kanye, now aged 33 and 36 respectively, when they were in their twenties.
Combination of looks: Designers created the images of North West using existing images of the infant as well as using photos of Kim and Kanye when they were in their twenties.
