'I most certainly can't take credit': Britney Spears' backup singer denies claims she dubbed pop star's upcoming album... as track list is revealed
Britney Spears was hit by dubbing allegations over the weekend after her single Passenger from her upcoming album was leaked online.
Fans took to Twitter, alleging Britney's longtime backup singer Myah Marie provided the bulk of the vocals for the song from new album Britney Jean. But Myah has hit back at the claims, insisting she 'most certainly cannot take credit for [Britney's] tremendous talent as a singer.'
'...while I am so grateful for the opportunity to provide background vocals for Britney Spears on a small number of her most recent works, I most certainly cannot take credit for her tremendous talent as a singer,' she wrote in an email to RadarOnline.
'She is a veritable "living legend" with a longstanding reputation for excellence in all aspects of her artistry. She is my idol and I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for her. I have no further comment.'This isn't the first time Myah has been accused of dubbing Britney's music.
In February, Star magazine claimed Myah had sung seven songs on Britney Jean.
Myah's father Murray Langston told the publication, 'My daughter sings for Britney Spears. The truth is, Myah can sound just like her. She has a knack.
'Maybe Britney doesn’t know whose voice is on her album and it doesn’t even interest her,' he suggested. 'Maybe she just comes in, lays down the track and leaves, and doesn’t care.'
Myah denied the claims at the time.
Passenger was leaked online on Friday, and fans immediately took to Twitter to allege the vocals didn't sound like Britney.
'would still put money on it being like 50% myah marie in passenger, somethings off with that voice its surely not all brit,' tweeted @jordaniqua.
'The more I listen to Passenger, the more it sounds like Myah Marie tbh,' wrote @kaye_ca.
@ClayDelRey tweeted: 'I am fairly sure that "Passenger" is Myah Marie... #justsayin'.
But for some, it didn't really matter.
'There are times where Passenger sounds like Britney and others where it sounds like Myah Marie. Either way, it sounds good! :)', @toxicfringe tweeted.
Meanwhile, the track list for the album, due for release December 3, one day after Britney's 32nd birthday.'#BritneyJean track listing comin at cha shortly :) …Any guesses on song titles?' Britney tweeted before it was released Tuesday.
Who do you believe? Britney or Myah Jean?
If your fave wasn't singing on their records, would you buy anyway?
