Toms Launches Socially Conscious Shopping Site, you wonder why Jessica Alba's there

Here's a chance to do some extra giving this Christmas (or whatever occasion you give presents for).
Tom's, the Los Angeles company known for donating a pair of shoes for each set it sells, [and also for selling comfortable, overpriced, androgynous shoes to hipsters & Portlanders] has a new do-gooder initiative: an e-commerce hub dedicated to socially conscious goods: http://www.toms.com/marketplace

The marketplace, which launched Tuesday on Toms' website just in time for the holidays, features more than 200 products from 30 companies and charities.  Consumers can search the site by cause, region and brand, perusing descriptions and videos explaining each group’s mission.

There are some big names attached. Actress Jessica Alba’s eco-friendly business the Honest Company is featured, as is model Liya Kebede’s effort to help Ethiopian weavers via her organization Lemlem [warning: the Lemlem site auto-plays music].  Even Movember, the group behind mustache-growing men’s health efforts, is on the site selling clothing and accessories. Sitewide, products range from $5 to $500 - a few eclectic finds are pictured below the cut.

Toms, which says it has donated 10 million pairs of shoes since its founding in 2006, piled millions of dollars into the marketplace project. The company, which is situated in Marina del Rey, said it gets 30% of its annual sales from holiday shoppers.
