392 People Want Their Money Back

Geri Halliwell's comeback single sells just 393 copies in Australia

AUSTRALIA may have talent, but only 393 Australians decided Geri Halliwell was musically talented last week.

Halliwell's `comeback' single Half of Me sold a diabolical 393 copies nationwide last week to debut at a lousy No. 281 on the latest ARIA chart.

By comparison X Factor winner Dami Im sold 44,025 copies of her single Alive to top the Australian singles chart last week.

The former Spice Girl signed with Sony Australia to try and relaunch her musical career off the back of judging on Channel 9's Australia's Got Talent.

Half of Me was written with Sydney's DNA Songs, who have penned hits for Jessica Mauboy, Timomatic and ironically Dami Im's Alive.

However a bold choice by Halliwell to sing live on the NRL Footy Show last month to launch Half of Me saw the resulting footage go viral - in the worst possible way.

Clips of Halliwell's performance and her most certainly not-mimed vocals were mocked internationally.

Sony Music Australia funded a video for the song, however Half of Me has yet to be released outside of Australia and New Zealand.

It has so far only had 7,800 views on You Tube, with comments ranging from 'Geri looks fantastic' to `Truly one of the worst songs of all time'

The song is Halliwell's first new music in eight years. Halliwell's last single in Australia, Desire, peaked at No. 78 on our charts.

Halliwell is at least faring better than fellow Spice Girl Mel B. She is in Australia to promote a new song, For Once In My Life, which is also struggling to perform.

Mel B's song has yet to chart in the Australian Top 500 singles chart after two weeks of release.

Halliwell and Mel B have both been paid handsomely to judge talent on Australian TV, but it seems Australians are less interested in their musical talents.

Damien Nicholas, of pop website auspop, said Half of Me was disappointing.

"It got what it deserved," Nicholas said of the artist formerly known as Ginger Spice's chart position.

"I love Geri, but this is the kind of single she'd have turned her nose up at as a b-side ten years ago. It lacks spice."
