"It's not explicit at all!" Paul McCartney sticks up for Miley Cyrus

Sir Paul McCartney has stuck his neck on the line in support of Miley Cyrus and her infamous twerking moves, admitting he doesn’t know what all the fuss is about.

Miley hit headlines at the end of August for her MTV VMAs performance which saw her twerking up a storm against Robin

But The Beatles star Sir Paul, 71, has hit back at her critics for saying the raunchy moves were inappropriate, even saying he’s happy his 10-year-old daughter watching her performance.

‘Come on, we’ve seen worse than that!’ he said on Sky News when asked what he thought about Miley’s racy antics.

‘I watched it as an experiment to check, but you look at it and you say “what’s everyone shouting about?”,’ he added.

‘I think it was only mildly shocking … it wasn’t explicit at all.’

‘I always think it’s unfortunate for a band to be called the new Beatles because it can be the kiss of death,’ he added to Sky News when asked about current bands being compared to his heyday band.

‘People expect you to live up to what we did, and we did what we did in a particular period in time, which is very different from now.

‘I don’t know whether it was easier to be a wild success then, but it was different.’

And showing his support to the boys – Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson – he added: ‘But I like One Direction. They’re young, beautiful boys and that’s the attraction. But they can sing and they make good records, so that’s what I can see in common – and that the girls love them.’

Sir Paul is promoting his latest album, New. It will be his 16th solo album.
