When Tumblr Casting Comes True... First Look at JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Ariel on OUAT
Once Upon a Time goes under the sea on its Nov. 3 episode with the introduction of Ariel (aka the Little Mermaid), her strapping beau Prince Eric and Ursula the wicked sea witch.
The story finds Ariel (JoAnna Garcia Swisher, who will appear in a handful of episodes) rescuing one of the ABC fantasy's regular characters before experiencing her own adventure, which incorporates elements from the 1989 animated Disney classic. "Once we realized we were going to Neverland, it felt like the perfect place to see Ariel," says executive producer Edward Kitsis. Fans should look for winks at some of the movie's iconic moments, such as a gag with a fork that nods to the clumsy dinner scene, says executive producer Adam Horowitz.
As for speculation that Lana Parrilla's Evil Queen will transform into Ariel's eight-legged nemesis, Kitsis hints, "In a world where our crocodile turns out to be Rumplestiltskin, you never know what might happen." Holy mackerel!

the parts i saw of it were so bad...
Please let her and Eric be true love pls pls pls
And no to Regina being Ursula. Still pissed Rumple was Fairy Godmother, Beast, and the Crocodile.
only here for the Belle/Ariel BFF-ness that's going to happen this season :)
ginny and jen keep posting instagram photos of joanna as ariel and they're really cute so i'm excited.
but not too excited because i have negative faith in the writers.
and lol if this were tumblr casting then ariel would be played by holland roden.

Regina and Rumple should've been the Big Bad for Season 1, Maleficent should've been Season 2.
And rolling my eyes at the complete fucking overreaction (mostly from the Swan Queen fandom) to Ginny's countdown picture. I don't even ship Hook/Emma and I know she was joking. Calm the fuck down. Telling her to eat a poison apple is crossing the line.

Regina is a really intriguing character, but they keep making her sympathetic BUT THEY DON'T REALIZE THEY ARE MAKING HER SYMPATHETIC so WHILE making her sympathetic they throw all this heartwrenching stuff at you and then it's just like you're supposed to go, "Oh, right, she's pure evil; there's no good left in her." The way this show handles adoption is gross as shit. Then you have other characters who are interesting but they just get left by the wayside until their actors give up and move on to other projects because they aren't getting any screentime. Ruby's backstory was interesting but then they just decided to have her pop up every few episodes to say a line or deliver some food or whatever, and Belle has been HORRIBLY neglected (and the romance storyline there is just SO badly handled, I can't).
Also the biggest problem in terms of storytelling is the fact that the show just KEEPS focusing on one family (Snow Charming/David--and David fucking SUCKS ASS I HATE HIM AND HE NEEDS TO GO AWAY) and they are INCREDIBLY boring. They just keep writing in all these Disneyfied fairy tale (and a few that haven't been Disneyfied) characters that have so much promise and then completely ignore them in favor that flop family.
So. Proceed with caution, because a likely scenario is that you will hate the show immensely but continue watching because of ONE gleaming character that they will repeatedly torture.
Like, I fucking love disney nostalgia and i love intertwining stories but it was a damn fucking mess.
