First up is YU-GI-OH! CLASSIC: SEASON 1 and SEASON 1, VOLUMES 1 and 2, arriving in stores on September 10. YU-GI-OH! CLASSIC SEASON 2 and SEASON 2, VOLUMES 1 and 2, follow on November 5.
The YU-GI-OH! anime series, a global fan favorite, originated from the YU-GI-OH! manga series, created by Kazuki Takahashi. The Japanese collectible trading card game was developed and distributed by Konami and has grossed over $20 billion, with more than 25 billion cards sold. The game and subsequent series features a play pattern that incorporates a combination of monsters, spells and traps to defeat opponents. It is recognized by the Guinness World Records as the best-selling trading card game of all time.
The series has aired on US television starting in 2001 and is currently seen on Vortexx, the WB Network’s Saturday morning cartoon block. Previous YU-GI-OH! DVD releases have scanned as many as 600,000 units.
The DVD episodes follow the adventures of a boy named Yugi and his friends, who are obsessed with the newest card game that is sweeping the nation. But the adventures really begin when Yugi solves an old Egyptian puzzle that infuses him with the energy of an ancient spirit.
