Ally Carter is continuing in Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan's footsteps of appropriating sexism whenever it suits them. Apparently the fate of all female-led adaptations rests on The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' shoulders, and the reason why critics are trashing the movie is because Clary is a girl and not because the movie is bad.
I'm guessing this blind hatred of female protagonists is the reason why a majority of critics on Rotten Tomatoes found The Hunger Games to be fresh, or why RT's critics were almost evenly divided on Twilight.
Yeah...that makes sense...
