Lady Gaga’s weight fluctuated quite a bit last year. After gaining about 25 pounds in early 2012, she began to get back in shape before her “Born This Way Ball” tour started in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Her mission to get back into tip-top shape, by reportedly eating a gluten-free diet and taking spin classes, has been working ever since. And although the “Applause” hitmaker looks a lot slimmer these days, Gaga doesn’t really care about her weight.
In an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show yesterday, she said:
“Well you know, I had to get back in shape, but to be fair I have never cared about my weight … it’s other people that care. I do fear at times that if I’m not in shape, people will talk about that and not my music.”
Regarding the bizarre “Abramovic Method” video from performance artist Marina Abramović that had us all going “huh?” (in which Gaga does a series of exercises while fully nude in a forest), she explains:
“This is called The Cleaning of the House. Marina has been a tremendous inspiration of mine since I was very young … and I wanted my fans to know her because I thought they’d understand me a bit better.”
“We did a series of different techniques and exercises that are her specific philosphy and you begin with sound and clean out the sound energy in our bodies and cleanse the palette of you as a life force and then she spent a lot of time putting me through other various exercises, like she left me in the woods for three hours blindfolded and I had to find my way home … And I kept walking towards a cliff, so she kept grabbing me.”
Gaga also revealed the reason behind her curvier figure: “I love eating pasta and I’m a New York Italian girl. That’s why I have been staying out of New York.”
“My father opened a restaurant. It’s so amazing … it’s so freaking delicious, but I’m telling you I gain five pounds every time I go there,” she said. “So my dad wants me to eat at the restaurant, and I’m like, ‘I’ve got to go where I can drink green juice.’”
Through the years, Lady Gaga has been a fan of yoga, spinning, and has even worked with celebrity personal trainer Harley Pasternak to keep in shape.
