Big Brother USA star Spencer Clawson is not a "bigot", his mother has insisted.
Clawson has been criticized for describing a gay houseguest as "Kermit the f*g", praising Hitler's oratory skills, suggesting that Nazi medical torture had some benefits, and describing the female contestants as "c**ts".
However, Clawson's mother Donna Clawson has now insisted that her son is only making the comments to befriend other houseguests, who have also been filmed making racist and homophobic remarks.
"Spencer really is a great guy," Donna told TMZ. "This is not a guy that's a bigot or a racist. And he's not that way at home. He's a great guy."
She continued: "If you're in a group, you go along with the group talk and that is what is happening with him... This is a reality show. The purpose of the show is scheming behind each other's backs. Spencer might not be perfect but he's my son. All those kids are somebody's child. He's a good guy."
Big Brother USA host Julie Chen recently spoke out about the bigoted comments made by the houseguests, admitting that they were "ugly" and "mean" and made her feel "sad".
Clawson has been criticized by his employer, while Aaryn Gries has been dropped by her modeling agency and GinaMarie Zimmerman has lost her job with a pageant company.
