THE WANTED band member Siva Kaneswaran has joined the ranks at Next Model Management. This marks the 24-year-old singer's return to fashion, having been originally scouted to be in the boy band through modelling campaigns completed during his teenage years.
His latest venture will be documented during the group's new reality television show, The Wanted Life, which will air on US channel E! this month. The signing sees him join current Next talent Rita Ora, Lana Del Rey and Suki Waterhouse.
"Next Model Management is delighted to announce the signing of Siva," a spokesperson for Next told us. "Undeniably gorgeous, and with a really genuine love of fashion which stems from his history as a model, we are excited to be developing his fashion profile alongside his hugely successful career as part of band The Wanted and look forward to seeing it all unfold on his new TV show, The Wanted Life."
Next Models sign The Wanted's Siva
In every boyband, there's a 'pretty one'. In The Wanted, that's Siva Kaneswaran - the tall, dark and handsome 24-year-old with cheekbones that could cut ice.
Born in Dublin to an Irish mother and Sri Lankan Tamil father, Siva started modelling aged 15 alongside his identical twin brother Kumar (yes, there are two of them ladies). It was his work in the industry that lead him to audition for The Wanted in 2009. Shortly after, the band released their debut single and they quickly became one of the UK's biggest boybands.
Though the band are at the peak of their success having just broken America, Siva is returning to his modelling roots by signing on with top agency Next.
"Next are delighted to have signed Siva worldwide and we look forward to working with him on his fashion positioning moving forward," says the agency, which also has fellow musicians Rita Ora, Lana Del Rey and Ellie Goulding on its books, as well as the likes of Alexa Chung and Anja Rubik.
We caught up with Siva to ask him about his new gig...
You modelled before The Wanted, how did you get into it initially?
My older sister was a successful model in Ireland and she introduced me and my twin brother into the modelling industry at the age of 15. From this we worked non-stop in Ireland doing campaigns, shoots, and fashion shows. As we got older we moved to London and continued working as models until I was offered a place in The Wanted.
What has made you want to return to it?
I have always enjoyed modelling and am very keen on keeping up-to-date with fashion so it's a natural progression for me to pick this back up. I'm excited to be working with the team at Next Models on my fashion positioning.
What are the aspects of the industry you enjoy the most?
Although I am on stage a lot performing, and often on music related photo shoots with my band The Wanted, I do really miss the kind of shoots you do as a model, that really focus on fashion and the art of photography. Fashion editorial shoots have a whole different vibe about them, so I am excited to be doing that again.
What would be your ultimate modelling job now?
There are so many amazing designers out there - it's impossible to choose one, but labels I love wearing like Burberry, Tom Ford, Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane, JW Anderson, Topman and Reiss. I like to mix high street with luxury brands. I love good tailoring. I'm excited to see the shows at the London Collections: Men later this month.
Will we be seeing you on the catwalk anytime soon?
It is very possible! I have a great agency behind me at Next Models and if the right job comes along I could be back on the catwalk again! Watch this space!
How has your modelling experience helped you as a member of a successful boyband?
My modelling experience definitely prepared me for having confidence in front of a camera and knowing what looks good on me clothes wise. The boys in my band would think that I am most fussy when it comes to fittings, styling and shoots but I just know what looks good on me and I like looking smart.
