As first reported by Playbill.com, producers Kevin McCollum, Scott Landis and Philip Morgaman are developing the new musical, based on the 1998 film that starred Drew Barrymore, which is currently testing its legs in a developmental lab that continues through May 13.
Playbill.com has confirmed that principal cast members Boggess, Burton, Jordan, Maxwell and Llana, will be joined by F. Michael Haynie, Gwen Hollander, Byron Jennings, Terrence Mann, Tony Sheldon and Ashley Spencer.
The ensemble includes Jill Abramovitz, Wendi Bergamini, Ashley Blanchet, Bradley Dean, Christian Delacroix, Sean Michael Hingston, Raquel Leifer, Darius Nichols, Katerina Papacostas, Sadie Sink, Eric Sciotto, Elizabeth Teeter, Kay Walbye, Jim Walton and Lauren Worsham.
Casting for the developmental lab does not indicate casting for any future full-scale productions of Ever After.
The show has music by Goldrich and book and lyrics by Heisler. Mary-Mitchell Campbell (Company, Sweeney Todd) serves as musical director.
Tony Award-winning director-choreographer Kathleen Marshall (Anything Goes, Nice Work If You Can Get It) directs and choreographs the production.
Heisler and Goldrich also authored the children's musicals Junie B. Jones and Dear Edwina. Heisler was named a 2012 recipient of the Kleban Prize for Musical Theatre.
I wonder if this will get any further off the ground, especially since R&H's Cinderella is already on Broadway and from what I hear there are some similarities with the new book & Ever After...
