Rock group Pearl Jam has promised to donate $US100,000 ($133,000) to several groups that focus on climate change, renewable energy and other environmental causes as part of an effort to offset carbon emissions the band churns out on tour.

"Our carbon portfolio strategy is the newest component of our ongoing efforts to advance clean renewable energy and carbon mitigation," the Seattle-based band said in a statement posted on its website yesterday.

Guitarist Stone Gossard said the group had been tracking its carbon emissions from vehicles used on tour and energy used in concert venues and hotels to estimate the band's contribution to global warming.

"It's a considerable amount of carbon," Gossard said.

After 10 years and 24 million album sales together, former Savage Garden frontman, Darren Hayes and Columbia Records/Sony BMG have decided to part ways.

According to a statement on the singer's official website, Hayes says, "The record industry has changed so much since I was first signed, and so have I".

"I'm grateful for the opportunities given to me but am excited about the prospect of a fresh new start."

The announcement comes after two sold out performances at Australia's Sydney Opera House last week as a part of his 'Big Night In' tour.

Hayes will perform one final show in Bangkok next week before heading back into the studio to complete work on a brand new album set for a 2007 release on a new label.
