Aladdin to Play Pre-Broadway Engagement in Toronto in November

Disney's Aladdin is officially headed to Broadway. The musical will play a pre-Broadway engagement at Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre from November 13 through January 12, 2014. The musical will then head to Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre in Spring 2014. No casting or exact Broadway dates have been announced at this time.

Casey Nicholaw, who helmed a different production of the musical in Seattle in 2011, will serve as director and choreographer of the musical, which features music by the late Howard Ashman, Tim Rice and Chad Beguelin. Beguelin will also write a new book. Based on the smash-hit 1992 animated film, Aladdin is the story of a street urchin who uses the help of a magic genie to win the heart of Princess Jasmine. Menken won an Academy Award for the original film's score and shared a second Oscar with Rice for the song "A Whole New World," sung in the film by Brad Kane and Tony winner Lea Salonga.

The musical will feature scenic design by Bob Crowley, lighting design by Natasha Katz, costume design by Gregg Barnes, sound design by Ken Travis, hair design by Josh Marquette and illusion design by Jim Steinmeyer. The creative team also includes music supervisor and director Michael Kosarin, orchestrator Danny Troob and dance music arranger Glen Kelly.

Excited for this, but spring 2014?! That's ages from now!
