Christopher Maloney quits Twitter after death threats

The 34-year-old updated his fans in one last tweet that he won’t be letting the online hate campaign, which has included tweets urging him to commit suicide, derail his strong run in the competition.

Before signing out, he tweeted: ‘Ello guys, taking a break from twitter for a bit, need to concentrate on my songs for this week. Ope u understand, thanks 4 ur support. Xx.’

Earlier the defiant Liverpudlian insisted his haters would not ruin his moment in showbiz’s sun.
He said: ‘All the negativity and crap I’ve been getting – people trying to bring me down and maybe force me to quit – it’s not going to happen. No way. I’ve worked too hard just for somebody to take it away from me.’

The vile messages came after angry X Factor viewers saw show favourite Ella Henderson axed from the competition on Sunday night while the Liverpudlian singer stayed.

Ella was the firm favourite to win the show from the offset but in a dramatic twist on the results show, she fell into the bottom two along with fellow favourite James Arthur.

Judges failed to reach a majority verdict, with Nicole Scherzinger and Gary Barlow saving James while Tulisa and Louis Walsh saved Ella.

It then went to the public vote of which Ella had the fewest and she was sent home while James joined Union J, Jahmene Douglas, Rylan Clark and Christopher Maloney going through to next week's show.

One nasty user simply wrote: 'CHRISTOPHER MALONEY KILL YOURSELF,' while another tweeted: 'Oh my god I feel to cry. I'm gobsmacked. Christopher maloney I will kill you in ur sleep.'
Another Twitter user threatened to 'hunt him down', writing: 'Christopher Maloney I will hunt you down and I will kill you. You should feel so guilty you fat orange turd. #xfactor.'
Echoing the same sentiments, another said: 'Anyone want to join me on a quest to kill Christopher Maloney?'

Show bosses have complained to Twitter over the threats and are said to be considering contacting the police.

A spokesperson for the ITV1 show said: 'The welfare of our contestants is our key priority and we work with them to provide what support is needed.'

This week Christopher told Metro how Louis Walsh was to blame for his backlash after the 60-year-old judge set him up as a ‘pantomime villain’ in a publicity stunt.
