half of my relatives are like this, and were very unhappy Romney lost... I was like, ummmm you're an immigrant, female, have been on welfare/Medicare/food stamps when you were laid off during the Bush years, got another job through adult education (funded by the government), you got a promotion because the economy improved under Obama, and you WANT a rich white guy who only stands up for people the total opposite of you, and you WANT him to win? wtf
I am white myself, so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to make this comment, but I can't fathom why a WOC would ever want to be Republican. Can someone explain it to me?
I'm Mexican and a lot of my family members are Republican based on their religious views, pro-life, anti-gay marriage etc. I've had an uncle tell me that saving baby's life > saving Mom's life...and my aunt agreed. And these are people that have two daughters. smh.
It sounded like she voted based on economic, not social policy. I think Obama focused more on social issues in his campaign and Romney focused more on getting people to believe he could fix the economy. As someone who is white I did vote for Obama because I felt like the social issues were more important since I didn't believe either one of them could fix the economy.
I don't think politics should be about race or gender. You should vote for the person who you think will do the best job and the candidate with the platform that is closest to what you believe.
She wrote an EPIC blog post about it, in addition to her letter to TMZ:
Rather than talk about real issues superficial ones are glued together for lively debate. Most of the hot topics are meant to push emotional buttons but they didn’t have anything to do with outcomes of any of the last several elections where they were dragged into the public arena for good t.v. Of course womens’ health and gay rights are of critical importance to the long term health of our country. Of course our education system needs an overhaul but these issues are always dragged out for the political arena and then stuffed back into the box afterward. I don’t have time for that. I actually care about what’s really going on. I believe in the dynamic process of democracy.
Oh, I see, i guess she's missed all the legislating that's been going on surrounding those "superficial issues" that are only trotted out show then put away without change.
You don't have time for women's rights and gay rights??!!! Get the fuck out of here.
I'm so sick of people justifying voting Romney b/c 'oh he never would have made abortion illegal and gay marriage isn't up to him' You saw what a psycho he was. What a hateful bigoted anti gay anti woman piece of garbage he was. You think he wouldn't have tried? And with majority in his favor, think he would not have succeeded? DELUSIONAL. B/c I believe those are the first things he would have taken care of had he won.
The morning after the election (I live in the UK), this American commentator said they went to Walmart and asked regular joes who they voted for and why. She said--without exception--the answer women who voted for Romney gave was 'Because I don't believe he REALLY wants to ban abortion and gay marriage.'
IF YOU ARE VOTING FOR A CANDIDATE BECAUSE YOU THINK THEY'RE LYING, RE-EVALUATE YOUR LIFE.
Romney's attitude now that he lost, just colors in the rest of his picture for me. Acting like we were bribed to vote for Obama might make him feel better but it really twists shit around. He is so sadly out of touch with what the common average person is looking for in a president that I am over joyed that he lost.
somebody in his campaign (I believe) made a comment about how many black people there were at a specific polling place in Maine (?) yet "no one in that town had ever seen a black person before"
black people flash mobbing polling sites won Obama the presidency.
The thing that gets me, is this attitude is to inherently expect people to vote against their best interest.
Hey college-aged women of color, I know Obama wants to ensure you have health insurance coverage, access to birth control, reasonable student loan debt, the right to marry who you love, and to keep the tax burden on those who can best shoulder it... but vote against all that, cause I really fucking want to be the President.
I don't understand how this didn't win over every one ever.
The governor of Maine is claiming that "dozens" of black people nobody else had seen before showed up at the polls in rural town, and he's going to somehow track them down by sending thank you notes to voters to see which come back (which sounds totally economical).
What irks me is that he was the one talking about taking personal responsibility and he has taken absolutely none for his own loss. And then he acts as if it's the electorate that's the problem. Apparently they should have seen his innate greatness and genius, but were too dumb to see it in his brilliantly run campaign.
He also threw the 'children of illegals' under the bus as well after he flip flopped his way into wanting immigration reform. The biggest gift of the whole election is that this out of touch rich jerk won't get anywhere near the White House.

And third parties aren't really that popular, honestly.

what's she done for all those issues that get "dragged out for the political arena then stuffed back into the box afterward" tho?

They're vile creatures who can't go quietly into the night, they have to hold onto their tin foil hats and screech in the distance.

You mean by removing regulations so that companies can keep making $$$ while the people and the environment suffer?
Or by ensuring that companies continue to get tax breaks if they move their business overseas etc.?
Like what is she even talking about?
How we can have a debate about coal without mentioning black lung or mercury poisoning is beyond me.
regulations exist for your safety, boneheads. god.
WE NEED TO RETURN TO FREE MARKET PRINCIPLES AND TAINTED MILK THAT WILL KILL YOU BECAUSE THAT IS CAPITALISM.
