X Factor Fan Fury Over 'Fake One Direction Live Performance'

X Factor are facing another backlash from fans, as ratings continue to plummet after One Direction's “live performance” on Saturday night was proved to be fake, with the boys actually recording their appearance in October.

The lads did a live rendition of new single 'Little Things' that proved not to be as live as the show made out, as they were spotted out at the same time in Los Angeles where they have been promoting their new album.

Dermot O'Leary teased their performance throughout the night with the judges even making an appearance in the recording wearing the same outfits as they live shows, in an attempt to fool viewers.

Angry fans took to Twitter to complain about the misleading performance with one writing: “Another X Factor scandal... everything about that show is fake.”

While Dermot never stated it was a “live performance” he told viewers on the night: “We have been celebrating the best of British tonight and they don’t come any bigger or any more British than our next special guest.

“They have conquered the world and it all began for them here. We’re the proudest parents on the planet as we welcome back with their new single – One Direction.”

In response to the fan fury an X Factor spokesperson told The Sun: “One Direction were pre-recorded as they are out of the country this weekend. The X Factor played it out as live but we have never tried to hide the fact it was a pre-record.”

“To have the best guest stars we have to work around their schedules.”

Their performance was seen as an attempt to stop a growing loss of viewers. Saturday night's show was two million behind that of BBC rival Strictly Come Dancing.

Fellow X Factor alumni Little Mix also performed this weekend, on the Sunday night result show as did Ed Sheeran where District 3 became the latest act to get the chop.
