MTV moves up VMAs to avoid conflict with Obama's DNC speech

You may want your MTV, but MTV wants you to be able to watch The Obama Show.

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards are airing tomorrow — Thursday, September 6 — from 8 to 10 p.m. Eastern Time on MTV. (The pre-show starts at 7 p.m.) President Obama is scheduled to speak at the Democratic National Convention after 10 p.m., with his address airing on the networks.

Last year's VMAs started at 9 p.m., but MTV moved up the timing of this year's event specifically for the POTUS’ speech. In the past, as Entertainment Weekly noted, MTV has introduced new shows in the hour after the VMAs, but that's not happening this year.

A whopping 12.4 million people watched last year’s VMAs. Will you tune in this year? Tape it? Ignore it and just read the list of who won?
