CREEPY POST: Haunted Homes of the Stars

The mansions of Adele, American Idol, Joan Rivers and more are inhabited by celebs and spirits alike

MAROON 5
No stage fright here! Adam Levine and his band mates recorded their 2007 album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, in Harry Houdini's allegedly haunted Los Angeles home. Guitarist James Valentine even claims he saw a ghost on the stairs. "It must have been benevolent – I never felt any bad vibes," he told PEOPLE.

ALYSON HANNIGAN
Long before welcoming daughter Satyana, the How I Met Your Mother Star and husband Alexis Denisof had someone else in their humble L.A. abode. "I have a ghost in my house ... I don't know why he's there. But he's very friendly," the actress said. "I saw this silhouette of a man standing in the bathroom doorway. I was like, 'Sweetie, what are you doing?' I thought it was Alexis. But then I looked and Alexis was asleep next to me."

JOAN RIVERS
In 2009, the comic legend revealed on Larry King Live that her New York apartment's former occupant refuses to leave. When she told her elevator man about the presence (which reportedly wreaks havoc with the electrical power and scares her dogs), he said, "Sounds like Mrs. Spencer [the former occupant] is back." At first Rivers didn't believe it, but now says, "Something is going on here." In January, she put her Manhattan duplex penthouse on the market for $29 million.

KE$HA
"I just recently moved because [my house] was haunted," the singer said of being literally spooked out of her L.A. residence, which inspired a line in her debut hit, "TiK Tok." "I'd always try to convince my friends to spend the night, 'cause I wouldn't get haunted on if they were there," she says. "I woke up one morning, surrounded by all my girlfriends. I woke up feeling like P. Diddy!"

LORETTA LYNN
The country music legend's plantation in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., was featured on episodes of Ghost Adventures and Celebrity Ghost Stories in 2011 because of its otherworldly inhabitants. "They're still with me," she said of the weeping woman and man who frequent the property she bought in 1967 with her late husband Doolittle.

DAVID BOREANAZ
He may deal with the remains of the dead on Bones, but the actor and his wife Jaime have a real-life spine-chiller in their L.A. home. "We woke up in the middle of the night and we heard this big bang! It felt like the bed literally fell off underneath us," he said on Live! With Regis & Kelly in 2010. "My first instinct is we're having an earthquake ... turns out, it wasn't an earthquake. Cut to two weeks later, same thing happens. It's like something picked our bed up ... so Jaime and I think ghosts are here!"

JENNA BUSH-HAGER
As the daughter of former President George W. Bush, Jenna has spent a number of nights in the White House – and says she's been visited by an unwanted evening guest. "I heard a ghost," she said on the Tonight Show in 2009. "I was asleep, there was a fireplace in my room and all of a sudden I heard 1920s music coming out. I could feel it. I freaked out and ran into my sister's room. She was like, 'Please go back to sleep, this is ridiculous.'"

THE AMERICAN IDOL MANSION
The nine-bedroom Bel Air mansion where the Idol contestants were once housed is occupied by long-gone tenants, according to season 8's Anoop Desai, and season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina and James Durbin. "I saw something white that looked like an arm," Durbin told PEOPLE of what he found in the garage. Alaina added, "Me and Pia were upstairs and the doors flew open. We were watching a scary movie before that and we were [already] freaked out." In 2011, the mansion sold for $11.2 million.

ADELE
The sensational singer dropped more than $11 million on her new mansion in Sussex, England, only to find out it just might be haunted. The six-time Grammy winner reportedly told a friend the house "gives me the creeps," according to British tabloid The Sun, which also cites that Adele heard a few things going bump in the night and hired her bodyguard to keep watch in the evening.
