Musicians react to London riots on Twitter

Musicians, including MIA, Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos and Example have reacted to the London riots via Twitter.

MIA has provoked anger from some followers with her comments condemned as being 'spectacularly misjudged'. She tweeted, "I'm going down to the riots to hand out tea and mars bars".

Lead singer of Franz Ferdinand, Alex Kapranos asked where the Prime Minister was in regards to the riots and widespread looting. He said, "Where the fuck are the Bullingdon boys? What's wrong you cunts? Would you only end your holidays if it were Fortnum & Mason being looted?"

Example posted a mixture of frustration and humour, saying, "All these Nandos on fire? Thats some over cooked chicken wings. Pull the army out of Afghanistan and stop all this bullshit now please", before adding, "If you're gonna set fire to any house in London please make it the Big Brother house."

Poet and musician Scroobius Pip simply stated, "This is Britain punching itself in the face. Repeatedly."

On Saturday night, a riot broke out in Tottenham following a peaceful protest over the police shooting of Mark Duggan. Today, more violence has hit the streets of London between police and groups of young people in many areas of London, including Hackney, Lewisham and Peckham.
