Throwback: Madonna talks about the importance of the Music Video
This is a very interesting video of Madonna at the New Music Seminar in 1984. It was a seminar where artists sat around to discuss what was new in music which was the music video. You can see John Oattes and James Brown looking down on Madonna and brushing off the music video as unnecessary or a travesty for music yet Madonna defends it, she knew back then how important the music video was going to be for the career of the music artist before anyone.
Before all of them, even before Michael Jackson or MTV, she saw the potential of a new art form and exploited it and that is a revolutionary artist and a visionary artist.
It’s no coincidence that she left James Brown and John Oattes in the dust, they didn’t have a clue. source.
