It's the most unlikely awards show double act since Anna Nicole Smith wrapped her legs around Daniel Johns from Silverchair.
Fledgling pop star Erica Baxter will share a podium with rapper Snoop Dogg at the MTV Australia Video Music Awards to present best album.
Insiders have revealed Baxter is being groomed for a major appearance at the awards in Sydney on April 12 and she will be accompanied to the event by her boyfriend, James Packer.
The awards, which will feature celebrities such as James Blunt and Ashlee Simpson, will be held at the Sydney SuperDome.
Baxter, who now has the full weight of Sony BMG executives behind her music career (after trying twice to score a record deal with the company) has been picked to present a main award as part of her push to become a pop star in Australia.
Baxter has put in a big effort over the past couple of years to convince Sony executives she's got what it takes, but one would imagine the Packer association was also a handy calling card.
Music critics - including myself - are yet to hear Baxter's recordings with Sony BMG, so it'll be interesting to see which style of pop music she adopts. Baxter's album is not finished yet so there are no current plans for a local showcase, but her appearance at the MTV awards is likely to be her first major push towards mainstream audience awareness.
Somewhat surprisingly, the model-turned-singer has revealed her own soft spot for the music of Snoop Dogg: "I am thrilled and delighted to be presenting an award with Snoop . . . I think he's amazing!" she said.
The colourful combination of characters at this year's MTV event, including the possibility of Packer and Baxter mixing it up with Snoop Doggy Dogg at the after-party, is likely to make it one of the more intriguing events on the annual music calendar.
