MTV Australian Video Music Awards April 12

Chart-topping Australian artists Lee Harding and electro-punk rockers Rogue Traders along with NZ’s Savage are set to perform at the MTV Australia Video Music Awards (MTV AVMAs) at the Sydney SuperDome on April 12. Joining other top international and local artists including The Darkness, James Blunt, The Veronicas and End of Fashion, the performances will beam across the world to a potential audience of 1.8 billion MTV viewers, providing unprecedented international exposure for local talent.

Lee Harding was thrust into the limelight with Australian Idol and has quickly become a local favourite with his charismatic nature and individual punk style. Set to be a dynamic inclusion to the MTV AVMAs lineup is Lee’s highly successful summer track “Wasabi”, which was the #1 most added track on Australian radio.

The Rogue Traders sure know how to make an entrance with their hot single ‘Voodoo Child’ exploding across the Australian airwaves last year to debut in the top 10 on the charts. Performing at the MTV AVMAs for the first time, the Rogue Traders will rock the crowd with their distinctive electro-punk style.

New Zealand hip-hop artist Savage has had a huge year with the release of two highly successful singles, ‘Swing’ and ‘Moonshine feat Akon’, the latter achieving double platinum sales in New Zealand after a staggering 7 weeks at number one. Savage will perform the hit single, which has just gone gold, at the MTV AVMAs.

International skateboarding legend, Danny Way, and singer-songwriter Kate Alexa are confirmed to present at the star-studded MTV Australia Video Music Awards with more presenters to be announced.

The MTV AVMAs nominations list includes 13 viewer-voted categories; Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Spankin’ New Artist, Best Group, Best Dance Video, Best Pop Video, Best Rock Video, Best R&B Video, Best Hip Hop Video, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Video of the Year, and the Viewers Choice Award, nominated and voted for by MTV viewers. The final category is the Free Your Mind Award, whose winner is chosen exclusively by MTV Australia to highlight humanitarian issues and encourage freedom from all kinds of intolerance and prejudice.

Voting for the MTV AVMAs has started and closes on Friday 31 March.

Winners will be announced at the MTV AVMAs on Wednesday 12th April, 2006 which is telecast live, kicking off with all the action from the red carpet at 7pm.

Lee Harding? Noooooo! Ashlee + Lee - could be a major disaster!

Madonna's nominated for 5 awards, and The Veronica's, Green Day, Bernard Fanning, Foo Fighters, Kanye West and Wolfmother all have 3 nominations each.
